Join Healwell’s new, weekly book club. Yes, weekly!
We’re holding it weekly for lots of reasons.
First, we want to be a useful buoy in your week and give you reasonable milestones to hit. It feels like a chapter or two in a week might be less daunting at a time like this when focus and calm are so hard to come by than, “Go read this whole book. See you in a month!”
Second, we want the book and our gathering to be timely and applicable to where you are this week and then next week and the week after. The chapters will be like friends traveling along with us through this uncertain time as long as it lasts.
We have intentionally chosen a book that is best digested in small bits and that is also likely to open some truly supportive perspective shifts and the deep tenderness that we could all use right about now. It’s possible you’ve read the book before, but we’re guessing that you’ve never read it while on home quarantine in the middle of a global pandemic, so give it another shot if you already know it.
Our first meeting will be on Monday, April 6th at 11am. We will plan to meet for 90 minutes (less if we’re a very small group) and we will send out discussion questions in advance of the meeting each week. It’s not a test, just explorations to jog your mind and heart and prepare you to share at the meeting.
The book we’ve chosen is Awake at the Bedside: Contemplative Teachings on Palliative and End-of-Life Care Edited by Koshin Paley Ellison and Matt Weingast. You can purchase it for your Kindle (or the Amazon reader app) from Amazon, but it looks like the actual book won’t arrive from them until late April. It appears it can be purchased and delivered sooner via Barnes and Noble, but we’re not certain about this… (Oh, like so many other things these days!) Can’t get your hands on a digital or paper copy, but you want to join the group anyway? Come on along! All are welcome.
