Healwell Policy for In-Home Services During COVID-19

The outbreak and continued presence of coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) highlights the need for renewed attention and increased vigilance in infection control. This is especially important for practitioners who work with clients who are immunocompromised and/or critically ill in their homes.

This policy applies to all practitioners employed by Healwell providing hands-on service for in-home massage therapy.

Communication with Client/Point of Contact

The practitioner will call or email the client/point of contact to discuss scheduling and procedures.

Schedule Massage Appointment

  • Practitioner and client/point of contact decide the best date, time and location for the session
  • Obtain pertinent information concerning the circumstances of massage environment. It is strongly recommended that the massage be performed in a room where it is possible to have the windows open during the massage session.

Cancellation Policy

Due to the health challenges that our clients face, the practitioner will explain to the client/point of contact that they will not be charged for the appointment if there is a change in health status and the client is unable to receive a massage. This includes concerns that a client or family member who lives with the client has symptoms that client or therapist suspects may be related to COVID-19.

COVID-19 Intake Consent Form

After scheduling an appointment, the client will receive a COVID-19 Intake Consent Form via HIPAA-compliant encrypted email. Healwell will confirm receipt and completion of COVID-19 Intake Consent Form prior to each massage session.

Mask Policy

Due to the current environment of COVID-19 transmissibility, everyone in the household who will interact with the practitioner is required to wear a mask. This includes the client for the duration of the massage session. Exceptions will be made only for medical contraindications, such as asthma or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

Massage Space Preparation

Healwell requests that the client/point of contact prepare, clean and disinfect the massage table and/or massage space before the practitioner arrives for the appointment. If the client/point of contact is unable to perform these procedures, the practitioner will perform these procedures on the day of the appointment.

  • Don mask (and gloves if possible to protect hands)
  • Clean and sanitize all surfaces (table, bolsters, chairs, light switches, doorknobs) with EPA-approved supplies, allowing ten minutes for wet contact time before wiping down
  • If possible, open a window and use a fan to direct the air out of the room
  • Place linens on the table (if table is being utilized)

Massage Space Cleanup

Healwell requests that the client/point of contact clean and disinfect the massage space after the practitioner leaves the premises. If the client/point of contact is unable to perform this task, the practitioner will perform cleaning and disinfection procedures (see below).

Day of Massage

  • Practitioner will complete a self-assessment evaluation
